Uber and Lyft are coming back to Austin as soon as Monday
Keep Austin mobile.
Uber and Lyft are coming back to the capital of Texas after the state passed sweeping ride-hailing rules that negated the city's more stringent driver checks, according to a local Austin ABC affiliate.
They are both slated to resume service on Monday.
Uber and Lyft both left Austin a little more than a year ago when the city's residents voted to require fingerprint checks as part of background checks required of drivers.
Since then, the city has seen a variety of smaller startups look to get a foothold — as well as the city's own app, Ride Austin. That app has proven popular with drivers, and could remain a challenger to Uber and Lyft.

Lyft is also working to return to Austin soon.
The state of Texas recently passed statewide rules on ride-hailing companies that rendered Austin's rules null. Drivers will still need to go through background checks, but fingerprint analysis will not be part of the process.
